Don Dixon (Lancaster, South Carolina native) is a record producer, singer, songwriter, session bassist and actor. Dixon first attracted attention in 1983 by co-producing REM's first album, 'Murmur'. He has written songs recorded by Joe Cocker, Counting Crows, Hootie and the Blowfish, and Ronnie Spector (just to name a few).As a solo artist, Dixon has released nine cds, touring all over the United States and Europe. His ninth recording, 'The Entire Combustible World In One Small Room' was released in 2006. He has also ventured into the movies, playing the role of Bert Hanley in the 2003 underground hit movie, 'Camp'.

Most recently, he’s been hard at work developing a documentary film called 'The Search for Country Soul'. Also see 'LUCKY STARS'.

- Bruce Brooks (one of today's most acclaimed writers of young-adult fiction) was Don Dixon's college roommate.
- When Seattle band 'Nirvana' signed to DGC Records in 1991, the record label considered Don Dixon as a possible producer for 'Nevermind'.
- Don Dixon created fictional band Big Fun's song 'Teenage Suicide (Don't Do It)' for the 1989 movie, 'Heathers'. The song is included on his 1992 album ' If I'm a Ham, Well You're A Sausage'.
- Don is a contributor to The General Cabbage Report, a weekly video podcast based in Canton, OH (created by Richard Jay).

I never knew I never knew him. Wonder if his production would have altered the recording (I mean... come on... better than Butch Vig???). Funny to know that a guy from Lancaster could have produced the album that changed the direction of alternative rock. Also worthy of noting is his work with the Smithereens.
